Salaam,
personally I believe in constructive criticism with each individual student. Firstly, a rapport needs to be established between the student and the teacher and this can be easily achieved by being open to students. Students who are afraid of a teacher will never come forth for any questions and consequently will not perform well academically.
One can use information such personal interests of the student, hobbies and passions to induce the trust needed to be able to build a student's self esteem. Being close and maintaining regular communication are the best means of building a student's self esteem as well as ensuring that said student will never hesitate to open up to the teacher.
Plan according to students level and interest, listen to student carefully and assure that he/she is special and valuable. encourage and appreciate.
If I recall my child hood, still I remember few teachers who build confidence in me and they were those who guide us and bring our potential and those classes and subject were few in which I did good and simultaneously I would like to share bad experience, my Math teacher who explain the term as per her knowledge and unable to deliver the solution as per the pupil approach and this was the worst exp of my life later in life when I used to teach I always try to bring some live example and explanation of the term and subject as much possible simple and bringing myself at student level and by the Grace of Almighty Allah till now being in HR and working as career counselor for various professionals and students I focus on simplify thing and this effort pay off a lot as other feel satisfaction.
Teacher must develop confidence among the children through ENCOURAGING them ASSURING them they have some SPECIAL TALENT which not other has. Focus on this and prove to be a worthy candidate.
Dear ,its depend on the teacher and student strategy.
have'em needs fullfilled
Give encouraging comments where need arises.Hold them accountable if and when they err, they have to learn to be responsible for their actions as well.
Whenever, i enter the class, i discuss formally with student of Civil Engineering. Then i ask is there any problem to anyone in the class about the previous lecture or programming. If anyone from the class ask me any question, i breifly reponse the student and always the out of the station students especially from Peshawar, Bajour Agency etc. because the students from these areas are very weak in their studies especially in Computer programming.

Teacher student relationship is of a parent child relationship. There is closeness but with respect and honor. Such an environment can be developed through sparing some time atleast once a week to share problems in studies and its solution with students.
After finishing a lesson a brief question answer session is very helpful to boost their interest in studies. Be generous to appreciate their answers when correct. Don't try to admonish if you don't get correct answers rather help them out by a quick revision.
I learn each students name, and then make it a point to have atleast one private conversation with each student to build rapport using some common interests in music and movies. I regularly ask how they are, about their hobbies, how their studies are going, their latest holiday, and how their family is. Basically, build trust, and show you care! Simplz!!!
teacher works in a friendly atmosphere, and reconstruction of activites and experiences, and provide maximun oppertunities of learning, and solveproblems phychologically, and guide them, through scientific process.
i think the more you can make children responsible for their own education then the more motivated and engaged they will be and I find coaching to be a great facilitator of this.
