A DC-DC converter is totally different from a DC-AC-DC converter. A DC-DC converter is any system that converts a fixed Dc voltage level to another DC voltage level. This can be achieved by using power electronic devices like Mosfet, IGBT,Power Transistor etc through varying DUTY CYCLE. This reduces the average DC voltage level.

A DC-AC-DC conversion can be attained by using combinations of POwer electronic devices and LC Oscillations like in home inverters, where we could get AC voltage from dc supply of required frequency. There after AC-DC conversion can be done using Rectifiers.

DC-DC convertors is Damn correct ...... I even read it in My Engineering (Power Electronics book )

DC- DC converter is correct.......

My point of view after going through the entire theory of DC-DC converter which is given in different Websites is that                      INFACT IT IS A DC AC DC CONVERTER.... Why? as follows

the definition of AC as follows,

1 Alternating,

2 Pulses,

The types of Ac, can be produced as follows,

1 Switching circuit

Mechanical vibrator,

Logic switchers,

TTL Oscillators,

Gate oscliiators,I

inductive Oscillators,

RC networks Oscillators(Flip,Flop circuit),

Generators ,

Alternators

Crystal oscillators

if we take a look on above said items all refer to Ac signals the types of Ac signal may be sine wave square waves or sawtooth waves if the DC DC converter is directly converting the DC to DC then what is the use of Charging and discharging Capacitor in the DC DC circuit in other words it is just like a voltage duobler or tripler as every body knows without ac signals the voltage doubler circuit willnot work as at on cycle it will get charged and at onther reverse cycle it will discharge so how it could be a DC DC conversion ,

An other DC DC converter uses inductive and capacitve elements to convert  voltages it is aparent that whenever an voltage is applied to the inductor it develops backing EMF and the inductor does not respond the backing EMF to dc that also clearly indicate that it is just working on the basic principal of Ac generators, if we look at higher frequencies there is no need for magnetic core only single turn at open air core conductor would be enough to produce the required backing EMF hte same thing is being mployed in the dc dc convert er at higher frequencies  somany factors cearly poit towards the fact that it should be named as DC AC DC converter if that is not the case then what fumction the capacitor and Inductor are doing there when the capacitor behaves as as insulator to DC and inductor also behaves as arsistor on dc please see it again Thank you

The choppers are static converters

allow the transfer of electrical energy from a

continuous source to another source continues. So DC-DC and correct

DC-DC converter is totally differant from DC AC DC converter , as in the first type we use power electronics circuits such as buck- boost converter while in the other one we may use inverter and a transformer because of the higher power transfer.
