there cant be any specific answer to your question as there are different strategies for different country and region depending upon the product you are dealing in.
though there is few guidelines you may follow;
1. know your product, its strength and weakness
2. target the specific market
3. study and learn the habits of that market
4. study your potential competitor
5. go through the market condition of at least past2-3 financial years
6. get clear on legal aspects all round
7. study and learn from past failures of other companies or product of same category or kind and avoid them

Thanks for your reply. But again, there are no strategies there...So I dont think, you understand the Question.
Study the market before you start your business. how market operates , what are competitors advantages over you and how you can compete through proper SWOT analysis.
Like Tesco befor entering USA sent their best team for one year to study market. After complete analysis they decided to start with organic market instead of standing infront of giants like Walmart. on otherhand low cost advantage gave considerable market to ASDA (walmart) in uk.
