What are the required skills shall I have as a telecommunication Engineer to be successful in my field?

Telcommunication has many fields, such as Switching, Transmission (MW & FO), Outside Plant, Satellite Communication, etc..
Nowadays areas have become more broader as technologies such as GSM, CDMA,3G,4G and Broadband etc..
were introduced into the field.
You should try to acquire the required practical knowledge in any of these fields along with your professional qualifications.
You should become thourough in any of these, then you should be able to find an employer.
If I explain further, if you wish to become a MW engineer, study how MW planning is done using tools and how to install a MW link etc..
and then practice them in actual situation.
