physical server are actual hardware instances comprising of resources including CPU memory OS Storage and Network.

Virtual server is the process of simulating virtual instances of hardware resource within a physical server.

Physical Server is present in Rack .

Virtual server act as Cloud server or we also created with the help of VMware / EXSi and monitor through V-shpere.

Physical server will be present in the machine.. which we can use for low level configuration.

where as virtual machine is imagine one , by using this we can support high level configuration.

Physical machine takes so many space but virtual machine is logical think it will not take that much amount of space.

Physical Server is just the name says ( Like physical Computer) on which an operating system runs, the physical servers are larger in size with much more powerfull components in general with featuring things like redundant power supply, raid controllers, multiple network cards ETC. Each of this physical server requires an seperate rack space, seperate network connectivity.

But Virtual Servers, are also called as Virtual machineswhich runs on an hypervisor( which is an operating system or a software with in the operating system that simulates a computeer enviroment where the virtual machines created and run)

This means the hypervisor can either be a seperate softwore or an entire operating system, for example Oracle Virtual box, VM ware Workstation, Microsoft Virtual PC these are some of the hypervisor softwares and VM ware ESXI( Vsphere), Microsoft Hyper V these are some of the Hypervisors which can be installed on a physical machine like an operating system installation.

On top of this Hypervisor, all the resources of physical server are equally distrubuted among the VM's thus one physical server can host hundreads of VM's

Physical VS Virtual:

Physical Server CONS:

  1. More Expensive.
  2. Harder to manage
  3. less scallable.

Virtual Server Cons:

  1. Less performance compared with the dedicated servers.

Physical Sever Pros:

  1. More powerful in terms of performance and redundancy when compared to virtual machine

Virtual Server Pros:

  1. Cheaper than an dedicated server
  2. Simplified back up and restoration
  3. Simplified management
  4. Scalable and flexible
  5. perfect choice for hosting any web service.

99.9% of the time, VM are the best choice for any business, as the virtualization technology these days going better and better, almost every company worldwide has adopted the virtualization up to some level, unless you requrie the real power of Dedicated server.

Virtual Servers have hardware that is abstracted from the local hardware and run on top of physical servers. Once you virtualize a server, that server really is a file or object you run and you back it up, move it, and clone it easily.A difference is also that your resources are shared. You nic card, fibre card, hard disk, cpu, memory, are all shared. This sharing doesnt cause any practical problems. But that is the big difference between physical and virtual servers.

Because it gives you a better resource management of your Server, and also you can run multiple different OS simultaneously on the same server.

Server virtualization has been a game-changing technology for IT, providing efficiencies and capabilities that just aren't possible when constrained within a physical world.

benefits of virtual server over physical server

1. save energy and go green

2. Reduce the datacenter foot print.

3. faster server provising

4. Reduce hardware cost

5. Complete utilization of hardware

6. increse uptime

7. improve disaster recovery

8. isolate application

9. extend to the life of older application

10. help move to things to cloud
