As per my large knowledge in the legal field, a proper law firms should have a department or section dedicated to legal research. Heading towards third parties to get legal info can waste both time and money and may not give the efficient result. In the world of legal affairs , each minute a research is needed. As they say around the clock. so it is more professional for a law firm to have an employee or two responsible for research. this will help the law firm to build a library with time. what happens if the client called late at night and asked for some info or data???? what if it is urgent o have info during the weekend????? Bottom line, if the law firm wants to run smooth and in fast competitive manner there should be a reaearch department.
