What makes a supply chain platform add competitive advantage to a business?

Within the current climate of lean supply chains, are there times when outward looking consumer focus should overide internal lean principles?

Nick, there seems to be an issue with your question, especially when you say internal lean principles and outward looking conusmer / customer focus.

If your organization has applied lean internally without Understanding the customer / consumer needs, then what you have applied in the form of lean is nothing but waste. A proper implemetation of Lean requires that you are able to capture what the customer values and needs, implement lean around these values and needs, ensuring that they are met with appropriate resources through minimal waste  generation

A lean Supply Chain therefore applied to one set of customer needs then will be different from a lean supply chain for another set of customer needs. The aim is to structure the right supply chains based upon your customer needs and your avilable products or solutions.
