I assume it is helpful as long as the tutee has enough intrinsic self-motivation and as long as the training programme does not require hands-on experience.

Yes, I find them very useful & an enriching more reliable alternative for just looking information on the net.

 

My personal favourite, speaking of experience is EdX.org, however, offering free online courses from top-tier universities in the world, the likes if MIT, Harvard (US), University of Toronto (CAN), TUDelft (Ned) & may other renowned institutions from China, Australia & Japan.

Online education is better if the institution is an accredited one and could issue a certificated for the course completion

Big YES , as most of us can't have time to attend the course , by sequence he / she can study any where any time and pick up the time to start study BUT it MUST be accerdite institute.
