One good strategy I've seen used is to offer extra services that the customer has expressed a desire for, for a price above what they currently contract you to do, more work, more money. If you regularly do W and X and they pay you Y, and they keep asking you to do Z, make an agreement to do Z for Y+1.
Maybe they have someone, or are looking for someone to do Z...why not you? Ask, negotiate a rate...
