Teaching is basically a phenomenon of conveying your message to the students. If you know the mental level of your students then it become easy to communicate accordingly which is more effective. To know the initial history and background of your students, furthe enhance the ability of the teacher to reach in the minds of his students.
I will maintain that teaching is a very complex art. There is a reason why there have been so many studies conducted on learning and teaching styles. But to answer the question, we need to ask ourselves, what exactly is "effective teaching"? For me, it is getting across the key message(s) we want, while also giving students the opportunity to engage in critical thinking and explore the creativity of their own imagination.
But each student, like every individual, is different. It would be naive to think that one teaching style/method will be effective for everybody. But in order to even decide on a teaching style you need first understand your students.
What do they want? What would be their point of view? What are their interests and passions? What motivates them? These are all million dollar questions. Once you answer them, only then can you be closer to reaching out to them the way you want to with your teaching.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR STUDENTS INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES MAKES YOU CHOOSE THE MOST APPROPRIATE TEACHING METHODS TO USE. IN ADDITION IT ALSO ASSIST IN SITUATION OF A COMBINED ABILITY TO VARY TASKS SO THAT THOSE DIFFERENCES ARE ALL CATERED LIKE FOR INSTANCE IN A CLASS OF BELOW AVERAGE AND ABOVE AVERAGE IT WILL BE PRUDENT TO ASSIGN TASKS TO THE ABOVE AVERAGE STUDENTS SO THAT THEY ALSO TAKE PART IN CLASS OTHERWISE YOU MAY USE STEP BY STEP APPROACH WHICH MAY END UP MAKING THESE ABOVE AVERAGE STUDENTS WITH NO TASK AND MAY OPT TO EITHER SLEEP OR MAKE NOISE
