improving power factor for inductive loads is done by using set of capacitors called capacitor bank this capacitor bank is devided into groups of capacitors and controlled through digital controller that measures the power factor and connect the apropriate ammount of capacitors to achive the wanted power factor value according to the connected loads.

The low P.F is mainly due to fact that most of the power loads are inductive and, therefore take lagging currents.

Capacitors draws a leading current and partly neutralises the lagging reactive components of load current. This raises the P.F of load.

The P.F of the whole generating P.S is in the region of0.8-0.9,for improving the P.F some oher devices are which help to improve the P.F

1)Static capacitor

2)Synchronous condenser

3)phase advancers

Methods of Power Factor Improvement depends on the type of equipments installed and power system configuration

·         Capacitors:Improving power

·         Synchronous Condenser

·         Phase Advancer

·         Using large Synchronous motors instead of induction motors to compensate the reactive power of the system.
