I have personally used comments section to highlights and low lights of the business performance and provide a financial advise to the top management. However,I want to understand whether this is too old school when we have Dashboards and all sorts of jazzy presentation forms
Of course,Crisp and short comments will help and not pages of history.
It will never impress rather irritate the person looking for specific information and that too in a tight schedule at the time of closing.
Indeed an integral part of Management Reporting pack.
We cannt do away with the fundamentals how much ever advanced presentations we include.
Good question though.
The Purpose of comments is ( to help understading what is happening in the business ) , if charts couldnt fulfill certain important point , thus its important to avoid comments that doesnt help and confuse report users.
Alot of poeple fall in the mistake of inreasing report size to show how much they worked on it.
Comments section in all kinds of Dashboard Reporting Package will be very useful to catch the eyes of the reader to know more about the reason / cause for that performance / data. This will play an important role to know how deeply you have analyzed the data and used for future reference also if needed.
How can you leave your home without any clothe on?
We all know what you are ( a human being either male or female). But your clothing would definitely define you a bit better, right? Your taste, your status in life, your style, etc.
So are comments to the figures in the monthly reporting.
I used them in all my reports to reduce questions from the users of the report.
