As a teacher, how do you improve the writing skills in your students?

It must be stressed upon the student to read their text books loudly in a lonely room and keep these words in their mind, and write the passages time to time to improve their writing skills, knowledge and grammar as well.

 

And the teacher must have some test and competition among their pupils which certainly help them to improve their skills.

Practice  makes permenant. One must often fail many times to succeed. To make students effective writers they must write often. They must write about various topics. They must write about things they enjoy and things that stretch their reasoning. They must be free to make mistakes at first without reprimand or judgement. They have to learn to just write freely from their thoughts before teaching them the elements of structure. Remember we first must brainstorm (let our mental acuities flow), then we organize our thoughts, then we create a rough draft, we edit(polish), then we have a wonderful finished product.

The process of building writers should be the same. We should let our writers just let their imaginations flow without reprimand or correction. As they become comfortable with expressing thought we then teach them how to organize their thoughts. We still do this without reprimand or judgement. Then we teach them structuring. Here we begin to focus more on benchmarks. We do,it without intimidation but as a learning and assessment tool. Then we get them to the core of perfecting and polishing, it is here where we can begin to more heavily assess.

Each stage takes time to accomplish. That is why practice makes permenant. The problem is the school system does not focus on writing early enough. It is expected that students understand and embrace the process all at once, and be good at it. That is a bit unreasonable. One will fail to enjoy something that they are judged on before they adequately learn how to accomplish it. Remember sometimes the only time a child writes is at school. The only times they express their thoughts is that rare assignment that asks them to do so. Writing once a week or once a month will not mane an excellent or experienced writer. When a child is comfortable with the process, understands the foundation, he or she will enjoy the process more and master it in the process. It's much easier to master something you understand and enjoy.

By giving them different simple topics, essays, paragraphs,exercises, home works and cmpositions...ect.

Exercises and practise.Give learners tasks and exercises in Controlled,guided and free writing.

Giving exercises that need them create like paragraph construction,creative writing,picture stories and many others.

By assigning a task of writing essays on different simple topics, throughly chicking their essays for mistakes, correcting them, writing your remarks on their essays like "Good, V. Good, Excellent just for encouraging them. This way they will get interest, and try to write more and more, that will improve their writing skills.

I tell students about mind mapping or graphic organizers before I start, and I let them practise it.This is after I divide the class into groups.I let each group choose the topic they prefer.Students start to write, and I go around to check and help them.I help them to form correct sentences.Then we move to the editing stage where they are about to finish.I let groups exchange topics and find the mistakes and correct them in front of the class.We discuss the best sentences of all topics and talk about them.Also , students can read .comprehensions or texts or they are given listening tasks about the preferable topics, and these can be the source of good writing as writing is a productive skill and there must be inputs to get outputs.So if we plant the three skills , we can harvest the fourth .
