The Expiry Date is the date at which a certain product is considered Unfit ( Unsuitable ) for Consumption , & would ultimately loose it's Viability ( Monitory wise ) , & , consequently , would loose it's Marketability .
The Shelf Life is the period of time that's left in a certain product's life , calculated in accordance with the Manufacturing Date , as a result of it being stored , or , not being sold .
In other words , the time period between the Manufacturing & Expiration Dates could be called the Life of the Product , & , the time period that remains from this Life , since it's started , until the Expiration Date , could be called the Shelf Life , during which , the Product is still Suitable & Fit for Consumption .
And normally , in most industries , a Product that has Two Third Shelf Life , out of the Total Intended Product Life , still remains in it , could still strongly be considered a saleable , marketable & ready-to-be-consumed Product .
( & That's the way it goes ) .

Gooday Generally, shelf life is the time given to a products (foods, beverages, drugs, chemicals, and many other perishable items) before they are unsuitable for sale, use or consumption.
For food, shelf life is different from expiration date: the former refers to food quality, the latter to food safety.
Generally expiry dates when talking about drugs are when the product is no longer as potent as it was before and will deteriorate further as time passes.
For further info on this subject please refer to the Shelf Life info at this link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelf_life Pat
