what means cannibalization of parts in logistics

Cannibalization of parts means, taking the part from the unit / machine, it doesnt mean that the part is scrap, it is new part sometimes that have to put in the machine that is urgently needed and have to put it back once the item is available in the market.

the definition of cannibalization in expenditure management to process of removing usable parts from one piece of equipment to repair another In other words the process of decoding apiece of hardware that is not working and using them to repair another device

when the concerned division need a part from the stored equipment , I take one of two action :

1- create a new two code with new description for the part and to the equipment without the needed part 

2- if the part been taken is for short and temporary time ,  write a note on the item card display which part is missing now

This we have been doing for aircraft's parts.
some time two aircrafts are grounded due to non availability of parts for example one have main landing gear broken while the other one with broken Aileron , so the best option is to cannibalize the parts from one aircraft.
Now only one aircraft will be grounded for parts.
It’s a reverse logistics process.
By cannibalizing parts we used to manage our budgets and time as well especially while handling high priority demands.
It’s a very technical point which most of Logistician don’t understand so loss theirs assets.

Cannibalization means to take parts from a new unit to a unit with a problem while the said part is not locally available . Since the unit is already for sale or customer awaiting the parts while at the same time you stop selling the unit you removed parts. Main reason is for customer satisfaction

cannibalization simply means removal of usable parts from any machine for the purpose of using it to another machine.

will give an example which i have faced personally. if you are an automotive dealer and you have a lot of vehicle stockes in your yard. you have an immedieat requirement for a spare part in the workshop for a car and you dont have it in stock. At that time you can take the same spare part from your stock vehicle with the permission of the management and use it for your customer. Then later you have to replace the part which you taken from your in stock vehicle.

cannibalization: is fast help from other machine or equipment until you get new parts from supplier

As i know, Cannibalization means, a part taken out from a set of equipment which is in stock & rest will returned back to stock as SRN.

cannibalization of Parts as per my openion its simply means a Demanded Parts which will be out of market after few day so if we purchase and stored out of market stock before shortage it will help us to resolve our upcomig issues
