PMP is for managing projects across industries (IT, Construction, Healthcare and others).

ITIL is more suitable for service based industries (BPO,24*7 Support centers)

The main difference is PMP is all about Project Management and ITIL is a best practice for IT services. For technical persons both PMP and ITIL knowledge is necessary and it will help to enhance the career with IT Industries.
