Is there any method used for measuring the signal spike coming through the RS485 cable in ModBUS communication.

Some Modbus Master modules got failed in one of my project, after analysing its identified that the transceiver chip got blown due to high voltage. Its capacity is +/-14V. So is there any method monitor the RS485 signals using some instruments like oscilloscope or others etc.
