Active power is the actual power consumes by the equpment for doing any work and Reactive power is used for magnetizing electrical coils, and we know without magnetization our circuit wont work,Hence we need both the power for operation.

power factor gives us amount of active and reactive power is inside that line

we have an advatage thet we can provide reactive power by using capacitor bank or any leading powerfactor provider.hence we can only supply active power in the circut which will reasult greater work efficiency.

Active power=total voltage x total current(produced) reactive power=total voltage x total current consumed in the Resistor section of the load
