Of course, because oil and gas is bound to finish some day. Until then, the planet must be already prepare to use something different in their place, in order to continue to live. So it's a matter of survival basically.
I think one should be encouraged to invest in renewable energy for the following reasons.
Renewable Energy is not something every company can/or/should invest in. In addition to energy production from renewable sources being very expensive, its return on investment fall mostly short of promises. Most renewable energy plants and big projects worldwide are mostly reliant on government subsidiaries. Such technologies though may be vastly available worldwide now, However they are yet to mature to a point where they'd prove very beneficial for companies.
I'm however a huge fan of Energy Conservation. It is a concept closely related when talking about renewable/green energies. Certain measures taken with respect to energy conservation can majorly cut down energy costs in addition to their other benefits.
In short "Renewable Energy" sounds like the ultimate savior considering the possible depletion of other sources, However alot of R&D is needed before they can be extremely commercially successful.
Renewable energy is important because of the benefits it provides.
Renewable energy technologies are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies.
Renewable energy will not run out. Ever. Other sources of energy are finite and will some day be depleted.
