For me as an Intrument Techinian the best way to measure process control success is by savings in material, energy and time which is a result from an accurate system measurement and control that enhances product quality, quantity, cut overall cost, increases production efficiency and enhanced plant safety...and this is can be done by introducing a system concept called.....

"Do it right the first time concept/ everytime! ".

As a Production Operator personnel, I think the ultimate sucess of Process Control should be determine by amount down time that has taken place. If process is control the way it should be by timely outright change out of bad or faulty equipment, routine checks, and prompt response as required then there would be as low as possible down-time which shows that Process Control is a sucess

Based on Production Rates being affected by these means of controllers whatever its sensors or safety alarming systems or PLC systems.

Also based on how steady those control systems with no bad effect on the controlled equipments used in the circuit specially with the periodical calibration of sensors and means used for control.

Making trends for the stuff being controlled all time to check response of these controllers according to changes which affecting the circuit.

Using test programes like SPC & Kyplot for testing these trends of equipments behaviour and how far these equipments away from the perfect behaviour.

From a mechanical or production engineers perspective the process is said to be in control when the jobs or the products fall within the specifications when used in the same machine for the same tool, method and material.
