I think it should be defensive. A. Let me give an example . In the late1980s with liberlisation the scooter market was being captured by Vespa with collaborration with LML. Bajaj scooters was loosing the market with outdated Vespa models. In its defensive ad( pehele dekhie un mahenge khilono ko phir kharidiye yeh Sher Bajaj Cub - which was a30 year old model )literally meaning- first see those expensive imported toys and then buy the trusted Bajaj tested in Indian conditions.

It was defensive advertising that worked. It gave time to Bajaj to make newer2 wheeler models with technology from Kawasaki.
