First of all I am impressed by the question itself and the response in one year. LOL
Now coming to the point, it would greatly effect our professional lives. In my area, people on social networks appear to be more friendly as compare to their daily life and in my view this behavior is understandable. If you have not seen a person physically you may response to him/her differently.
And in professional lives, the things and expertise written in CVs, I have personal experience who dont know any thing but have a large CV with a lot of expertise. This is the reason you cannot hire a person without interview and which is now an integral part of selection process.
