As a quality analyst in the ITES sector in a technical helpdesk my job profile or KRA is that of a whistle blower. If any of thereps is not adhering to the process and doing something that is technically wrong that is leding to more average handling time (AHT) and bad customer experiance I have to blow the WHISTLE. I HAVE TO RAISE THE FLAG. This makes me unpopular with thepeople affected. But if I do not highlight the errors the Clent co may find them and we may loose the contract.
Whistle-blowing is a very useful tool if used in the manner to which it was intended. It should highlight, to the powers that be, practices which are harmful to the company. Harmful could include "unsafe", "discriminatory practices", "fraudulent practices" etc etc, anything in fact that has a detrimental effect on the running of the company both in HR terms or business terms. It should NEVER be used for personal gain or as a "revenge" mechanism to put right a perceived wrong!!
Whistleblowers do call attention to genuine abuses of power by decision-makers in business and government. They do often suffer retaliation for their ethical resistance. However, whistleblowers may often be wrong in their accusations and their motives are not always pure. Their actions can disrupt a workplace, and may cause serious harm to individuals wrongly accused.
