for simple way of a developing a hardware software installation skill you can start with assembling a PC with all its requisite peripherals from motherboard , processor to cabinet assembly. its basic where the evolution of hardware starts. same way the OS installation can give you immense knowledge of how the software basic installation function and its flow way.from there you can precisely focus on networks configurations. More practical the errors are learned more the professional you can be.

to develop such skills you need  3 elimantes:

-first you need to read or have courses and learn alot about hardware/software technology,it's bases and it's evolution,

-second you need  direct contact with software/hardware demain to learn more about it and especially troubleshooting all soft/hard problems,

-third you need to be updated to whats new on all software/hardward technology related.
