"I am not bound to please thee with my answer" William Shakespeare
''All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players.....''
Shakespeare to me is the standard to which all entertainment should seek to achieve - immortality through telling timeless, relevant stories.
In Montreal every summer there is a traveling Shakespeare troupe who perform 'Shakespeare in the Park' in city parks in the evening, outdoors. Each summer, different plays, and different interpretations - such as, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' set in the1940s during WWII with the Duke and his friends as British fighter pilots. Wonderful.
Shakespeare is a great deal more than Romeo and Juliet for me. Shakespeare is that great pioneer in English Literature that the rest of us mere mortals can only aspire to be like. When I think of him, I feel a twinge of sadness in general at how little people seem to be reading nowadays. Reading Shakespeare is challenging certainly, but his contributions are immortal, and it is essential that we always recognize and celebrate him. Happy450th birthday to the Bard!
"Alas poor Will, I knew him well"! I hated Shakespeare at school, I could never get my head round "ye olde worlde english"!!!!!!
I think he is sometimes Much Ado about Nothing.
For me Shakespear is Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet ,King Lear ,Mackbeth , and all the works that I studied or read.We still get wise quotations out of his works.
an ol' staid ZIT :))
Age cannot wither him, nor custom stale his infinite variety
