Why do some scars last while others fade over time?

depends on site of injury as tissue differs every where.. n extent of injury to the depth of tissue layers and also the general health of person like any existing disease which alters the growth conditions..

In general that depends on several factors. Like the site of the injury (head, chest, abdomen, limbs...),  the causing factor (burn, cut, wound, surgery, ...), the age (children, young, elderly), and if there is an additional factor that can prolong or even prevent the healing process (infection, diabetes, mal union of the wound lips, ...). Sometimes applying some medication on the wound may lead to generate fibrosis which can develop to scars.
