Emotional intelligence is all about getting in touch and be aware of our own feelings-emotions and the other people's as well. We can bulit a stronger EQ if: we can control our stress, we can face problems in life with more humour, we can understand the other people's ideas & opinions and not to judge them, we can built up stronger friendships and relationships. In order to do that, we have to accept that we don't know everything and our way of life or ideas aren't the best or unique. This is hard for some people because they are a bit strict and conservative. But the only way to be accepted by other people is to show them that you can understand their point of view, and after all we are all different and that is the attractive element in life. The opposite would be so boring!
It is said that good IQ helps you in getting a job but good EQ would help you in keeping the job.
Emotional qotent is more important than IQ. It is your capacity to maintain your cool in difficult situations , strong ledership skills and much more.
Learning how to develop emotional intelligence will help you escape from tons of problems that would have happened if you were to take emotional decisions.
Emotional intelligence is all about understanding the real reason behind people's behavior instead of judging them without thinking.
If you want to be emotionally intelligent then you must forget about judging people based on your own belief system, You must learn how to see through things and how to put yourself in their shoes.
The same goes for yourself, you must understand your own behavior and find out why you are doing certain things the way you are doing them now.
Wonderful question!
Emotional Intelligence is strongly related to "emotions"; the "mother board" of our "processing system". Having a high degree of emotional intelligence basically means understanding human psychology, the actions & reactions of ourselves and those of other BETTER. Although it carries the word "emotion" in it, it does not imply that emotionally intelligent people are more emotional than others in a conventional way. On the contrary, they are surprisingly calmer than others!
People who are high on emotional intelligence are better in identifying, decoding & controlling true emotions for the sake of making their RATIO (rational thinking) prevail. The long-standing universally shared notion of emotions being related to the heart is a scientifically false one (as we all must have known by now)! The heart only reacts to what the brains tells it to do. The brain is our true heart!
Some scientists claim that "Emotional Intelligence" is even more important than "Traditional Intelligence" or IQ, for many reasons:
Typically "emotional people" (also called easily triggered or inflammable) are often either very low on emotional intelligence, that's why they react too quickly & impulsively on input from their environment OR they are very high on emotional intelligence to the extent that they can understand the real intent (emotion) of people faster than others and decide willingly to lose control, since they can relate perfectly to their true emotions or the HIDDEN emotions of others (highly intuitive people). These can be both, good & benevolent emotions or bad & evil ones.
A small addition, feelings such as "sorry", "regret" or "remorse" are often related to the fact that decision were made based on what the Amygdala said when "hijacking" our brain and reactional system in few seconds while making terrible "emotional decisions". Regret is an emotion triggered by "the coming back of rational thinking and reason". Very funny & paradoxical, indeed!
Reading tip: Daniel Golman's "Emotional Intelligence",1996.
1-Understand the importance of emotional intelligence - all the aspects of life.
2-Learn to recognize stress triggers and how to deal with them.
3-Be open minded, curious and agreeable.
4-Be careful.
5- Be attentive and self aware.
6-Practice communication skill.
7-Understand how you feel and be kind to your feeling. Recognize your feeling for what they are.
8-Don’t blame
9-Set goals and use positive emotions to guide yourself.
Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend them all care, kindness and understanding you can master. Your life will never be same again....
By using your brain and experience more than your laptop.
Fnding the solutions by utilizing your skills instead of google.
By believing that you are still a learner.
By acting like a good listener at work even if you are not at home :)
EQ drives you to achieve more in the longer run whereas IQ may be a quick fix solution. I agree with your quote.
In practical there is nothing like intellgence for emotions, Emotions are simply emotions.
But in business or job we should follow professional emotions which relates to mutual profit & loss, and if you are successful to manage profits than you are a man or person of emotional intellegence. And emotions are to feel not to impose and in business there are games for imposings.
But you can enjoy intense emotions intellegency with family and friends where no profit is there and no loss is there, only attachement is present.
Do things that make you happy! Hobbies intrests and career path, it's likely you will meet like minded people. All this helps with emotional intelligence.
