Generally,mathematical finance will derive and extend the mathematical or numerical models without necessarily establishing a link to financialtheory, taking observed market prices as input.

Quantitative Finance refers to use of mathematical or quantitative tools in Financial Modelling or Financial Analysis.

Quantitative finance is a science that uses diffrent techniques from several diciplines such as physics and statistics to quantify different values in finance. It needs more and more computer skills nowadays (specially Object orianted languages) due to the complexity of the SDE envolved in financial variables and models. quantitative finance has changed the stock exchange and derivative world by bring on its sofisticate techniques and also helped reducing arbitrage. It also made computers drain gains by taking adventage of the information speed in the terminals (high frequency trading)
