I don’t like to waste my time in consecutive interpretation I like to encourage my students to try to understand the meaning of the words from the text. However, I also consider discussing the meaning of the hard words in the text with my students. In my class I believe that I should do both because some of my students prefer this way.
This is an important skill for a teacher who teaches a second language to the students. It elaborates the text with full comprehension. Now a days there are two groups emerged on this issue. One group still think it important at school level and use this technique.
The other group consider it an out of date practice to waste time. They confine only to the meanings of hard words and that's all.
To me it needs a step wise implementation and I practice it. Starting with consecutive interpretation, going through meanings of hard words and ending with just reading and explaining any point if needed.
