Respect can neither be given nor taken as FREE air can neither be given nor taken.

As we make attempt for pure air for its good after affects so is the case with respect to look for good deeds, gratitude, humility for its good after affect of FEEL GOOD or  FEELING GOOD

I am not afraid of giving it to others. Actually, I always give to others unconditionally, until they remind me of a condition I profoundly have that they did not abide by. Then, I may revoke my given respect.

I can't give my respect to others away; it resides with me and I have exclusive ownership and usage rights of it. I, also, cannot give MY self-respect away, no matter what. It is not free but "it is affordable and quite cost-efficient and cost-effective in most cases".

We respect others on the basis ofour ethics and our religion and our culture, the degree of which is a source of pride and reflects the scope of our acceptance of the ideas of others and the scope of our civilization

Bader, I belive respect is mostly earned. You have to earn it with your actions and deeds. It’s also a give-and-take relation. Generally, one will not respect a person if s/he is disrespected by that person.

However, there is a cultural characteristic of respect. We are taught from our childhood to be respectful towards parents, teachers and elders in general. This is unconditional respect. And what a beautiful lesson for us to show unconditional love and respect.

Respect yourself and others will respect you. Or respect others as you'd respect yourself. With mentorship one can say respect is earned or acquired through actions of merit or ethics. Been mentored by your parents they may have advised you to choose wisely the people you are associated with. They may be deceptive. I think may also be associated with respect
