I have been to hundreds of events so far in my30+ years of professional experience.  I must say that I fully agree with the statement and the majority (90% or more) of these events tend to be a waste of time and money.

Do not misunderstand my statement below. I am not against these events, and as a matter of fact, my business comes mainly from attending and presenting at such events locally and regionally, and I have done lots of that over the past20+ years of my career.

However, I also know that the return on investment from such events tends to be very very low and sometimes it may give negative results from the perspective of the employees who attend such events, or even from the view of the management who allow employees to attend such events !

The responsibilit in dealing with this problem and trying to improve the situation relies mainly on the events organizers themselves and how they conduct such events from planning, to preparation, to candidate nomination/enrollment, to the quality of the content, adquacy of the content to the needs/expectations of the audience, the capabilty/capacity of the speakers & presenters, ... etc ..; etc.
