Your no claims discount (often called your no claims bonus) is a reduction in your insurance premium based on the number of years since you have made a claim, or a claim was made against you - See more at: http://www.consumerhelp.ie/car-insurance#no-claims
No Claim Discount (or popularly called NO CLAIM BONUS) is the discount, which the policy holder (who also is the owner of the insured vehicle) receives, at the time of renewal, calculated on his Basic Own Damage Premium - for not making/preferring/incurring any claims on his/her expiring insurance policy.
No Claim Bonus, or NCB as it is sometimes abbreviated to, is a rating system that Insurers use to assist in determining the appropriate rate to charge you for Insurance.
Your rating will increase/decrease each policy year dependent on whether or not you have an “At Fault claim”
You may think that you have not had an “At fault claim” however, if you cannot provide the details of the Third Party responsible for the damage the Insurers will mark this as an “At Fault” claim and it can affect your rating.
For example: Your vehicle is damaged whilst parked, no details where left and no witnesses have come forward, you are therefore unable to provide any details of the party responsible. Your Insurer will deem this to be an “At Fault” claim even though you were not responsible.
