Striking when the iron is hot ,is speaking of right timing. Its talking about the art of shaping iron into a usefull instrument ,this cant be done untill the metal is white hot and pliable. you cant strike it while its in the fire ,and to strike before its pliable would result in useless labor perhaps even damge to the final outcome. one would do better tending the fire and being patient.
