Firstly it is important to have a DHCP server resigned within the company's network. Then once dynamic allocation has been chosen in the settings of your server to assign IP addresses, any network protocol supports assigning IP addresses and network configuration to the computers/tablets/smartphones. Even RIPv2 supports dynamic allocation of network configuration.

for a compony with a large computer static ip assignment is not an option so DHCP is used instead to automate ip addresse management

DHCP : Dynamic host configuration protocol, it supplies IP address automatically and when you are gone offline it assigns that IP address to a machine which has come just online. DHCP manages IP addresses.

Hi,

DHCP (Bootp) is the protocol its task to deliver IP addresses with TCP/IP options like gateway, DNS server and WINS to all clients in the network.

If the DHCP is down or the client is un able to reach DHCP then the client will configure itself bu assigning IP from the range169.254.X.X/16 or fe80 (IP6), this process is called APIPA or LLA (in IP6) which means there's a problem.
