A self‐evaluation is a great opportunity for employees to honestly and objectively consider and document their performance. Having said that, employees must also know how to complete a self‐ evaluation and be comfortable with the process. Properly conducting a self‐evaluation can make the difference between a meaningful evaluation and one that is less effective. This brief tip sheet is meant to enable you to conduct better self‐evaluations.
This is a critical evaluation of self. You are so objective about your strengths, weaknesses and any other things of value you may include. When we do appraisal or performance evaluation cycles,it is at such times when it is ideal. It is to identify strong areas of someone and appraise them. The weak areas are the areas to work on,exerting more energy on the weak spots.
In my opinion, self evaluation means analysis yourself. At organisation level none of the employee does honestly self evaluation since it is affecting on appraisal, but at personal level you can do it. It is very simple to analysis yourself. First, understand what is management's expectation from you, what are the available resources with you to achieve your task. Secondly, analysis whether you have utilized resources, your skills at optimum level. Lastly, analysis what are the causes so either you fail to achieve your goal or lack in it. By conducting such test one can improve their weakness and understand what additional knowledge is require to open further horizon. Organisations do such exercise to understand whether available resource for the employee is sufficient or not, whether the culture at organisation is healthy or not.
