1. Use a trusted VPN service.

2. Disable services which allow remote connections

3. When connecting and prompted, choose the public wifi option.

4. And as the answer above says, use an antivirus and firewall.

Anyway if you cant verify that the Wifi is legit, its best not to use it. For myself, the machine connected to public wifi is barebone with nothing in it. I would keep sensitve stuff in a separate virtual machine with encrypted disk.

This isn't going to directly answer your question, but...

From a not-the-best-whitehat-hacker's point of view, I'd rather not use a public WiFi if I were going to log in to any sites online.

Hackers sometimes transmit open WiFi signals from their laptops and thereby let users connect freely to the internet. Now since the data is going through the hacker's laptop, he could sometimes just monitor your data transmission and thereby catch your passwords and bank details and.. you know.

First , don't use your financial site , your bank account ..... keep your self secure to disclose your password ....or to give it to any one, finally I advice always use your own device.

first be sure to disable sharing, second use a VPN , third your firewall should be on , and if you can use firewall software it will be good , use a good Antivirus , in using a web-browser try to use something like safety search or Browsec VPN
