Well !! I am already a senior ... so I can talk about it from two different times; when I was younger and what I looked for in my seniors, and as a senior and what I give to people reporting to me and working with me or for me 

  1. Showing the direction and the destination ... where we are heading and why !!
  2. Motivating and getting the best out of the individual by promising and commiting to giving him/her the best too 
  3. Recognizing and rewarding good performance openly, publily and quickly ..  different ways of recognition including but not limited to $$$
  4. Holding the individual accountable for the work done (positive or negative) and showing what the consequences would be in either case 
  5. Empowering the individual with proper level of authority/resources to get the job done in the right way
  6. Helping the individual in career development through career path/training path alignment 
  7. Be fair and square to all ... and treat them equally on merit basis 
  8. Deal with conflicts and issues between individuals on professional and ethical grounds
  9. Demonstrate knowledge, experience, maturity and wisdom in all dealings 
  10. Be the example you talk about !!
