Does your company monitor/ employees' web use? Do you think this will increase productivity?

I'm against monitoring web behavior of employees, unless it is really needed as a result of precedents of bad behaviour.

 

I'm in favour of enhancing responsible behavior of employees regarding their browsing behavior during work hours in relation to productivity goals, using trainings/seminars.

 

Do not patronize your employees with "private home" paternalist practices.

Yes I belief that web increases the productivity for the employees for producing quality of work. In my organization we have Wifi to download necessary learning materials.

In some organization , full internet access depend on employee grade. If employees are using web access for training material, definitely it will increase productivity.

Hi . Sorry for being late. Net was down due to heavy rains at my home. But it was up an running in office. Only websites that are job related should be allowed. The reason is emploees tend to get distracted. If there were no restrictions the emploees would be watching world cup all the time and not working. Productivity would be hampered.

Also if we allow non job related websites it could also be inviting VIRUS in the network. Which could affect the server and lead to financial loss.

For emploees benifit  the cafetaria can be made wi-fi enabled so that emploees can access the internet and download music  while relaxing.

It depends.  Define first the employee's nature of work.  If he/she is into research and similar stuff, of course, web use is important for them.  But if his/her work does not necessarily require the use of such facility, then, that might only distract the employee from accomplishing his/her task well.

An honest and diligent employee does not have to be monitored all the time because he/she knows the value of time. But if your company hires someone who does not have these qualities, then it's making a recipe for its own disaster.

If web is used for positive purposes to learn new skills, research new technologies, etc. then of course it is productive. However, there are people who uses the web for non business purposes.. We strongly recommend employees not to use internet for non-business reasons, but we don't monitor the usage..
