Machine translation is the translation of text by a computer, with no human involvement. Pioneered in the1950s, machine translation can also be referred to as automated translation, automatic or instant translation.

There are two types of machine translation system: rules-based and statistical:

  • Rules-based systems use a combination of language and grammar rules plus dictionaries for common words. Specialist dictionaries are created to focus on certain industries or disciplines. Rules-based systems typically deliver consistent translations with accurate terminology when trained with specialist dictionaries.

  • Statistical systems have no knowledge of language rules. Instead they "learn" to translate by analysing large amounts of data for each language pair. They can be trained for specific industries or disciplines using additional data relevant to the sector needed. Typically statistical systems deliver more fluent-sounding but less consistent translations.

Machine translation refers to using software to translate writing or speech from one language to another.  However, for it to be true machine translation it cannot use any human assistance.  It can use a database of words or phrases but has to translate text or speech without human interaction to help it achieve the translation.

Machine Translation carried out by the computer software which translates text or speech from one natural language to another. Firstly it decodes the meaning of sources languages and then it recodes this meaning  to target language. The two types of general Machine Translation systems are- Ruled-based system and Statical System.

Congratulations Shagufta Mubasher

Rules-based systems use a combination of language and grammar rules plus dictionaries for common words. Specialist dictionaries are created to focus on certain industries or disciplines. Rules-based systems typically deliver consistent translations with accurate terminology when trained with specialist dictionaries. We can't enumerate the grammar rules, So it's still heuristics and the traduction isn't100% prefect.
