How do you differentiate between Business Development and sales & marketing?

Broadly speaking, Business Development enatils a more strategic / long term engagement with customers. Teh ground work required to establish and develop a trusted advisor relation ship with key stake-holders is a time comsuming but vital part of Business Development. Business Developmnet also requires an in-depth knowledge of eco-systems, complemenatary products / technologies and comeptitoin offerings. BD is focused on acieving long term goals: Stable sales piplines, Influencer engagement, building a trusted advisor Relationship.

 

If Business Development is the startegic war plan, Sales and Marketing is the tactical plan to win the every-day / run-rate business. Sales and Marketing campaigns are usually Channel focused or retail customer focused. The objective is to creat excitemnet and motivate buyers and customers to purchase via attractive price offerings, incentives (lucky draws, discunt vouchers, etc)
