Short circuit calculations are to calculate maximum fault current that is likely to flow through cable for worst fault scenario. It is useful in determining if cable will sustain worst fault scenario or get damaged. It also help in determining interrupting capacities of switching devices to be used on that cable and also to determine protection settings.
