What is "Roadmap" and its benefits in management?

A roadmap is a plan to reach a certain goal or complete a project.  The roadmpa contains a high level view of what needs to be done, how it will be done and when it will be done.  The best way to present a roadmap is to group important milestones in a date, provide a architechture diagram, organizational chart, etc.

Road Map is the route to destination, a plan, a guide, a summary and a synopsis ................What needs to be done, how , when , who will do, with time table .

Benefits :

a) Definite Plan in hand.

b) Time , cost and efforts ---Known.

c) Road map will help to identify :: Who will do which activity.

d) RM will provide Inputs for Roles and Responsibilities.

e) Task and milestones are chalked out clearly.

 

I echo with the answer of Mohammad Shaikh. Roadmap is a plan to achieve a certain goal. An IT company's roadmap for a fiscal year contains, a set of projects alongwith the high level estimations that are planned to achieve strategic goals of that fiscal year. Usually roadmaps are created at the start of a fiscal year or while planning a release cycle. 

Roadmap for IT, Business, Finance & real life is very important.

Actually Road-mapping is a new introduced term (originally from politics). It is directly related to the strategic planning.

A strategic plan is actually defining where are you standing (A), where you going to with a period of time (B) and finally how to do it, and that is the Road-Map.

 

Roadmap is key factor for any success.

An action plan leading to the goal/objective.

It is the most vital stuff for all success. Even we have to draw our future roadmap.

Every organization/firm, whether profit or nonprofit oriented exist for a purpose, objective or goal. The desire to achieve or attain that goal, or objective leads to the setting of strategies which in effect spell out what is to be achieved, and the role of each individual within the organization structure whereby failure of one may lead to failure of all. The strategy may be long or short term, but intended for the overall objective. This process of setting strategies helps in drawing up a plan of what to achieve, when to achieve it and by whom in terms of role, with specific timeliness. BUT it is important to note that not all strategies are achievable and thus there is always need to review and re-strategize. It is this process that gives rise to a roadmap with all the advantages and draw backs as explained above.
