A strategy describes a global path to pursue a formal goal. E.g.: We want x% of the market in order to reach a sustainable level of profitability.
A plan, on the other hand, allocates in detail resources that are necessary to accomplish the strategy, e.g.: hiring of sales people, launching an advertising campaign etc. Thus, the strategy is more abstract, the plan more concrete.
The time horizon is not decisive since it companies are sometimes forced to change a strategy on rather short notice and with few time left.Recently, the terms strategy and business model are sometimes used as synonyms. There is considerable overlap between the two concepts..
Goal: go to Paris
Strategy: go by plane
Plan: buy plane tickets, obtain passport/visa/insurance etc, pack luggage, take taxi to airport.
Tactics: use price comparison site to get cheapest plane tickets: pack suitcase only after required items have been laid out: use trusted taxi firm without checking price with other firms.
Planning is a logic we design to achieve our objective..
Strategy is an different means of options available to reach the objective..
For example we plan to go to dubai that's planning..
We look out for different options to reach which flight to take which will reduce our costs, finally the objective is to reach the destination/goal..
