Sometimes, you, as a manager, have to show employees the exit door. I know, it is the worst thing a manager can do, but sometimes he has to. When?
A manager reaches this stage after so many steps trying to fix the problem.
A. If the employee is not deliverying what he is supposed to whether in quantity or quality. Then it is the manager's job to make sure:
1- He understands the task at hand fully
2- Check if he needs help dividing it into smaller tasks
3- Check if he needs help planning and organizing his time to deliver more in less time.
4- do close coaching to make sure he is able to do his job.
5- provide training if needed
6- Establish a good relation to be able to talk with his employees maybe a personal matter is distracting him/her so why not offer help or at least moral support.
7- Make sure he understands how his performance is evaluated and show him his weak points and offer help to errect them.
If all the above is done and didn't work then it is time to fire the employee.
B. In case an employee is breaking the company rules, then the manager should:
1- Explain again the company rules and make sure they are fully understood
2- Explain the consequences of breaking the rules and make sure they know how they will be penalized.
3- give a verbal warning that they are breaking the rules and that they will start to bear the consequences.
4- If he continues to break the rules then A written warning
5- if he continues to break the rules Follow the company startegy in this case.... Maybe a deduction from the salary or minus points on his evaluation report or to take away a promotion from him ... whatever the company chooses to do.
If after all the above he continues to break the rules then it is Time to fire him
NICE TEASING QUESTION HUSSAIN,,,, MANAGER ROLE PLAY IS TO HIRE& FIRE ,,,, REWARD & PUNISHMENT ..........====== THESE ARE THE ASPECTS TO LOOK AFTER FOR THE CORPORATE OBJECTIVES=========== TO HIRE SOME ONE IS ALWAYS AN INTERESTING PORTION OF JOB BUT TO FIRE SOMEONE IS MOSTLY TUFF , BITTER & UNPLEASENT,, BUT YOU HAVE TO PERFORM YOUR DUTY,,,,,,,,,,==== IT IS EXPECTED FROM YOU,,,,,,,,, I TAKE IT AS DIVORCE ,,, YOU TAKE YOUR WAY & GOOD LUCK ,,,, LET ME LIVE MY LIFE ON MY WAY ==== BETTER TO DEPART THEN FIGHT ALWAYS ========== ITS SOME TIMES LIKE SURGERY,,, YOU HAVE TO DO THAT OTHER WISE YOU WILL DAMAGE THE OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY...............GOOD DAY
If an employee resist to follow rules and regulations or the procedures and standards that set by the company, the manager should have to fire him to alleviate problems caused by him and also to prevent other employees to do the same
Good question sir, and a it's a common problem one faces atleast once in their careers..
Firing is the worst and the least option, We as managers feel shy or inconvenient to take such actions, but it is always good to get rid of problematic people as soon as possible before it becomes a big problem...
When a person is not performing as per the expectations of his job role, and even after providing guidance/help and providing him time to improve his performance and his performance still not upto the mark, then manager will be left with no option but to show him/her exit door. It's unfortunate, but you have to do it to improve the team performance..
Similarly, when a person has serious attitude problem that impacts other people, and irrespective of giving him several chances to change himself, his/her behaviour and attitude is against company policies and impacting other team members, then we should show him exit door.
A manager's basic role is to ensure that efforts of all employees of the company are directed towards achievement of organizational objectives.
In case if any employee of the company is not helping in achieving organizational objectives or is violating company policies and guidelines than it would be necessary for th company to fire that employee.
As a human resource development management student, firing is the most difficult task to do, because you really need to follow the due process of firing people. The manager's role is to balance and analyze everything in order to have the best decision. In firing an employee, there must be a valid reason. It's either they are not capable to their job anymore or they continue to fail and haven't reach their goals.
A Manager shall fire the employee upon continues failure to meet his goals after putting his efforts to find his week area and to rectify it by professional training, inspiring from bench-marks, coaching and giving several chances to improve himself. After all this efforts, if the employee still remain as a burden on the employer without any results in his tasks, then he must be kicked-out from that position.
It is the easiest and unrealized most expensive tool to avoid efforts for making opportunities available for learning and development!
When the patience level scaled down to new peaks and started digging the tolerance level in your efforts to complete your assigned task as a team leader.
carrying dead leaves earn nothing individually or otherwise so !!!
