Yes,
iOS is so close (Not open source) and Android is open source.
Means, iOS does not allow changes in its OS and one cant develop application that is not documented by Apple... But still one way is to remove iOS security that is Jailbreak...
Also, iOS does not allow to read messages, Call history etc. And one cannot send a simple message without user interaction.
Android is open source. We can do what we want.. Can read messages, call hostory without user intervention.. Also even we can accept, reject, block a call by a program.
