With the current economic climate, is there any point in applying to jobs within the Middle East if you are not currently based out there?

I've been hearing a lot of talk about situations where foreigners are the first to go in job cuts, and I've also had the experience of getting close to having a job but not being able to get a work permit. Do you believe employers are looking for middle eastern nationals more so then foreigners at the moment?

Yes there is a point in applying.
Yes some expats have been let go - but don't listen to all the rumour mongering, each will have a story but this is about your life story, so make it work.
I wasn't based out here, I was headhunted and offered employment which I accepted.
It is not easy by any means and the financial rewards can sometimes seem like compensation.
However, there are many expats out here doing very well.
Can I point out that life is what you make it where ever you live.
Be careful of the negative company that can eat away at your fears and associate primarily with positive, like minded people no matter where they are from.
Keep in mind your goals and always keep in mind why you want to come in the first place.

Yes,because it doesn't mean that you are not based on a said location, you are not qualified to do applications in there.Situation nowadays only prove that whether what nationality you have, you are still welcome to work in any places in the world as long as you have all the necessary skills and unique talent or even just say being competitive is an advantage for you to be hired anywhere else.

Dear Noor,

Due to the current financial situation in the middle east and gulf, they are trying to recover by developing and enhancing other industries like education, transportation and hospitals and as I see in your professional profile that you are working in one between the mentioned sectors (education). If you are planning to relocate, I really encourage you especially that teachers' salary scale in gulf countries is good.

Good Luck!
