Why do we use BGP? and Why is it considered a path-vector protocol?

<p>Since interior gateway protocols (IGPs) such as RIP, EIGRP or OSPF can satisfy IP routing in our internal network, exterior gateway protocols (EGPs) such as BGP4 calls for external IP routing. However, BGP is not needed in many cases. </p>

BGP is used to create separate routing domain for your internal network and external network (internet) and then we redistribute only the which needs to be shared between these domains. BGP can also be used in your core network for advertising label for l3vpn routes and l2vpn pws.
