i use in common sense in which vision is the projectile of what you want to achieve... mission statement is the obstacle they are like objective in which to achieve those vision... 

Mission Statement : is about present and existing state of the company. What we are ? What we do ?, etc.

Vision Statement : Expected or desired future state of the company. What we should do? What level of recognition we should have? How much we are going to contribute to the humanity as a whole?

Vision statement represents the future end state, while the mission statement represent the procedure to move from the current state to the future next state.

These two terms are most common in any companies profile ,it is a simple way to give the viewer what is the objective of the companies business targets and achievement.

Vision statement is a term used to give the viewer an idea of  future targets for the  company or institute business to achieve ,it should be generated from the actual business that company or institute is performing and must take into consideration a deep speculation of future business environment and status that this company willing to be .

Mission statement is a second term used to give idea in regard what is the exact business that company or institute is doing and what is their carrier and target at the time that statement is generated ,perhaps it may be updated on a certain period of time due to the markets or business environment  changes.
