There is a difference between Fanuc and Siemens in the type of microprocessor control that compile reads the program. For example, we have a two vertical milling machines with same specification. on of them from Fanuc and the other from Siemens. If we created a part in a CAD\\CAM program such as SolidWorks which is used to create the part with dimension. Then, start using CAMWorks which is used to create G-codes for CNC machines. We do the sequence process of CAMworks which is as following

1-change coordinate axis of part  direction to machine axis

2-Define the machine and the post process file of the machine

3-Determine Stock's Dimensions

4-define starting point

at this point, we finish pre-process (preperation to use CAMworks)

Main operation( which takes long time) with review

5-defining machinable features in the part

6-creating operation sheet

7-toolpath for cutting tool

after reviewing this we finished almost more than95% of CNC

Now , until this point there is no difference between the two machines for Fanuc and Siemens but the difference in the post process operation.

post process:

8-translate to G-code which it depends on the defined file of step2

this file should be asked when you buy any type of CNC machine if it is not provided with the correct one it will be useless such as you have Fanuc post process file and did G-code depending on it and use it in Siemens machine it will not work or work but not as you expect. so waste money.

The bottom line is that the post process file for each machines is different depending on the company that has programed the CNC machine.this file should be asked about it before you buy any type of CNC machine
