Family physicians treat injuries and illnesses that occur in everyday life.
Broken bones, sinus infections, colds, and other common viruses are examples of ailments that are treated by a family physician.
When patients have a more serious condition, family physicians refer them to a specialist.
When a patient comes to see a family physician, the physician collects information by interviewing the patient and performing some diagnostic tests to determine the problem.
Tests can be as simple as looking inside a patient's throat or ears, or they may involve the use of imaging equipment like x-rays.
When the tests are completed, physicians interpret the results, make their diagnosis, and prescribe a treatment.
When medication is required for treatment, family physicians write prescriptions that their patients can take to a pharmacy.
Unlike most other doctors, family physicians work with their patients over a long period of time.
It's common for patients to see the same physician for many years.
For some people, this can be very rewarding.
Furthermore, the family physician must do the duties which are as listed bellow:1.
Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.2.
Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' condition.3.
Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.4.
Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.5.
Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.6.
Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.7.
Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.8.
Deliver babies.9.
Coordinate the patients with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers.10.
Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.11.
Operate on patients to remove, repair, or improve functioning of diseased or injured body parts and systems.12.
Arrange government or organizational emergency heath programme and immunization.13.
Suggest to physical exercise and maintaining disciplined life where necessary.14.
Assist to reports government which includes birth, death, and disease statistics, or medical status of individuals.
